The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested the former panel mayor of Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) and the chairman of Charkhai Union Parishad (UP) in Beanibazar upazila.They were arrested in separate operations, tuesday. Both individuals are affiliated with the Awami League.
Those arrested are Taufiq Box Lipon, former panel mayor of SCC and a leader of Sylhet Metropolitan Awami League, and Hossain Murad Chowdhury, a member of Beanibazar Upazila Awami League and the chairman of Charkhai UP.
RAB-9's media officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police Md. Mashiur Rahman Suhel, informed that Lipon was arrested on Tuesday at 2 p.m. from the Mirabazar area of Sylhet. He is facing charges related to murder and sabotage in a case filed at South Surma Police Station. Lipon is the son of Taslim Box from the Kodomtoli area in South Surma.
Later, around 3 p.m. on the same day, RAB conducted another operation in the Bondor Bazar area of Sylhet, leading to the arrest of Hossain Murad Chowdhury. Chowdhury, son of Moinul Hossain Chowdhury from Jalalnagar village, Beanibazar, has an ongoing case against him at Beanibazar Police Station.
