Making the World a Better Place with the UPG

United People Global, based in Geneva, Switzerland, and America's Hurricane Island Centre for Science and Leadership, a joint initiative, are working with the aim of creating leadership from young people with the vision "Making the World a Better Place," with the potential to work with the 17 SDGs of the United Nations. The UPG Sustainability Leadership Class is one of their major courses, and this year, 13,000 students participated in the first round.

A nine-week training session is organised for students selected through shortlisting. UPG is primarily working towards empowering everyone to solve the problems of their communities, like poverty, hunger, malnutrition, sanitation, gender inequality, and climate change, by developing young leaders. It is working with interested youth on the basis of achieving the 17 goals of the SDG to build a sustainable world.

At the end of this nine-week programme, 500 students will be awarded certificates, and they are divided into 95 teams (which they call tribes), and among them, the top 3 tribes and, in total, 60 will be certified with distinctions, and they will be taken to Hurricane Island, America, for a full-funded one-week training.

One of the students of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Israt Jahan Spriha, who was shortlisted in the 'UPG Sustainability Leadership Programme 2024' said that she's working on SDG 4: Quality Education for the betterment of her society. She's from tribe 7, and other members of that tribe are working on different SDGs, and they are inviting people to join their good will vow campaign to make the world a better place.
