Two newly elected MPs take oath

Two newly elected members of parliament have taken oath in the 13th National Parliament election. Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed administered their oaths at the Speaker's office on the premises of the National Parliament Building at 12 noon on Sunday (April 12).


Mahmudul Haque Rubel, the winner from Sherpur-3 constituency, and Rezaul Karim Badsha, the winner in the by-election from Bogra-6 constituency, signed the oath book as per the tradition after taking the oath.

It is worth mentioning that BNP candidates won the by-election of Bogra-6 (Sadar) constituency and the general election of Sherpur-3 (Srivardi-Jhenaigati) by a large margin. In Bogra-6 constituency, Rezaul Karim Badsha got 133,931 votes under the symbol of paddy sheaf. His nearest rival, Jamaat-e-Islami nominee Abidur Rahman Sohel, got 57,159 votes under the symbol of scales. On the other hand, Al Amin Talukder got 526 votes under the symbol of cauliflower.

In Sherpur-3 constituency, Mahmudul Haque Rubel, the candidate with the paddy sheaf symbol, received 166,117 votes. His nearest rival, Masudur Rahman, the candidate with the scales symbol, received 47,051 votes. In addition, Mizanur Rahman, the candidate with the scissors symbol of the BASAD (Marksbadi), received 480 votes.


According to the District Election Commission, 42.57 percent of the votes were cast in the by-election in Bogra-6 constituency (excluding postal ballots). The number of votes cast was 1,93,326.
