A young man from Moulvibazar was killed in a Ukrainian drone strike in Russia amid the ongoing Ukraine-Russia war, leaving his family devastated after months of uncertainty.
The deceased, Muhibur Rahman, was a resident of Sampadpur village in Amtoil union under Moulvibazar Sadar upazila. He had been missing since January 2026, and his family was informed of his death nearly four months later.
According to family members, Muhibur had gone to Russia on a student visa around three years ago. He returned to Bangladesh about nine months ago on vacation and got married. However, within days of returning to Russia, he went missing.
The family said they were unaware that Muhibur had joined the Russian army on a contractual basis. His younger brother, Habibur Rahman, said Muhibur had told them he was working as a cook in the Russian army. The news of his death was later conveyed by one of his colleagues in Russia.
Local administration officials confirmed the incident. Moulvibazar Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Md. Rajib Hossain said they had received information that Muhibur was killed in Ukraine. “Efforts are underway to bring back the body and provide financial assistance. Further steps will be taken after discussions with higher authorities,” he added.
Muhibur was the sole earning member of his family, and his death has left his loved ones in deep distress.
