Five farmers lost their lives in separate incidents of lightning strikes in four upazilas of Sunamganj. On Saturday (April 18) afternoon, incidents of lightning happened in Tahirpur, Jamalganj, Dharmapasha, and Dirai upazila of Sunamganj.
Police and local sources reported that there was a lightning strike during paddy harvesting in different areas when the sky suddenly turned black and rain started in the afternoon.
During that time, lightning struck five individuals, including farmers and workers, while harvesting rice and spreading manure in different areas in four upazilas, resulting in their tragic death.
The deceased were identified as Habibur Rahman (30) and Rahmat Ullah (15) of Dharmapasha Upazila, Nazmul Hossain (26) of Jamalganj, Abul Kalam (25) of Tahirpur and Liton Mia (30) of Dirai Upazila.
The police said that the bodies would be handed over to their families after completing the legal process.
