Passengers and vehicle drivers traveling from Sylhet to Dhaka have been instructed to use alternative routes, as the Sherpur Bridge will remain closed for three days for emergency repair work.
Sunamganj Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Minhazur Rahman issued this directive, asking all highway travelers to avoid the Sherpur Bridge during this period.
The Sherpur Bridge, built over the Kushiyara River, plays a vital role in traffic movement on the Sylhet–Dhaka highway, connecting Sylhet and Moulvibazar districts. The aging bridge requires urgent renovation, leading to its temporary closure.
According to a press release, repair work on the damaged deck slab will begin at 8:00 AM on Friday, April 24, and continue until 8:00 AM on Sunday, April 26.
Traffic movement will be partially restricted during this time. On Friday, a single lane will remain open from 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM. However, the bridge will be completely closed to all traffic from 11:00 PM on Friday until 9:00 AM on Saturday.
From 9:00 AM on Saturday until 8:00 AM on Sunday, limited traffic will again be allowed on a single lane. The bridge is expected to fully reopen after 8:00 AM on Sunday once the repair work is completed.
During the closure, vehicles traveling on the Shayestaganj–Sherpur–Sylhet route are advised to use the Shayestaganj–Mirpur (Bahubal)–Sreemangal–Moulvibazar–Fenchuganj–Sylhet alternative route.
Similarly, vehicles traveling from Sherpur (Moulvibazar) to Sylhet should use the Moulvibazar–Fenchuganj–Sylhet road. Meanwhile, vehicles on the Dhaka–Sylhet–Sunamganj route are advised to take the Saidpur Bazar–Raniganj–Jagannathpur–Sunamganj road via Nabiganj.
Authorities have urged all passengers and drivers to follow these diversions to avoid inconvenience during the repair period.
