In an unprecedented move ahead of the upcoming parliamentary session, Leader of the House and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has convened an urgent meeting of the BNP Parliamentary Party. The meeting is scheduled for Sunday (October 11, 2026) at 6:00 PM in the Government Party Room at the Jatiya Sangsad.

Typically, parliamentary party meetings are held a day or two prior to or during an active parliamentary session. However, with the next session likely to convene in the second week of November, calling a meeting well in advance has drawn significant attention across political circles.

Key Issues on the Table:

According to senior party insiders, the sudden assembly aims to address pressing issues surrounding intra-party discipline, national law and order, proposed constitutional amendments, and preparations for upcoming local government elections.

Zero Tolerance on Indiscipline: The high command is aiming to clamp down on alleged extortion, land-grabbing, and violence involving party affiliates. The meeting follows the recent resignation of BNP reserved seat MP Ferdousi Ahmed Misti over an attack on the 'Radda' health center in Mirpur. The incident also led to the dissolution of three committees, including Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP, and the expulsion of 14 activists. PM Tarique Rahman is expected to issue strong warnings to lawmakers regarding personal and political accountability.

Constitutional Amendments: A special parliamentary committee, led by Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, is currently working on constitutional reforms and the implementation of the "July National Charter", aiming to submit a report by December. The meeting will likely outline the party's official stance on constitutional changes and state institution reforms.

Local Government Elections: As local body polls approach, managing grassroots expectations, candidate selection, and maintaining internal cohesion present significant challenges. Central guidelines will be laid down to ensure organizational stability ahead of the polls.

Speaking anonymously, a senior BNP leader remarked, "The Prime Minister has summoned all lawmakers to deliver crucial operational and ethical instructions. The leadership is determined to maintain public trust and strictly enforce law and order across all constituencies."
