A two-day training workshop titled “Developing Youth Competencies for Safe and Responsible Digital Engagement” concluded today (April 18, 2026) at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), Sylhet.


The workshop, which began on April 17, was jointly organized by the Election Lab of the Department of Political Studies at SUST, the ULAB Centre for Critical and Qualitative Studies (CQS), and Fact Watch, with support from UNESCO.


The opening session took place at the New Social Science Building with participation from academics, researchers, and students. A. M. Sarwaruddin Chowdhury attended as the Chief Guest and highlighted the importance of equipping youth with critical thinking and digital literacy skills to responsibly navigate today’s fast-paced information environment, particularly in combating misinformation.


Special Guest Md Shajedul Karim also addressed the session. Among other distinguished attendees were Md Ismail Hossain. The session was chaired by Md Nazrul Islam.


At the beginning of the program, Md Shahabul Haque called the meeting to order, followed by a welcome speech from Zayeda Sharmin. An overview of the Election Lab’s previous activities was presented by Noor Hasnat Emon.


The program introduction was delivered by UNESCO project lead Shakil Foysal along with Md Riaz Uddin Khan. A goodwill message was also shared by Md Monirul Islam.


Throughout the two days, participants engaged in training sessions, discussions, and interactive activities focused on safe digital practices, critical evaluation of information, and responsible participation in the digital ecosystem.


The workshop successfully concluded with active participation from students and young individuals, reinforcing the importance of building youth competencies for safe and responsible digital engagement in today’s digital age.
