Minister for Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment and MP for Sylhet-4, Ariful Haque Chowdhury, has presented a comprehensive roadmap for the development of his constituency during his official visit to the United States. Speaking at an exchange meeting with expatriates in a New York hotel on Friday (May 8), the Minister detailed ongoing projects aimed at transforming the infrastructure of his region.
Addressing the audience, the Minister recalled his campaign days, stating, "I navigated countless bamboo bridges during the election trail. I promised that after the polls, the responsibility would be mine. I have already initiated the work."
He confirmed that a survey has been completed and the construction of a 66-km RCC road project is underway. Additionally, he expressed optimism about completing at least 10 major bridges and culverts this year.
Focusing on education and local commerce, the Minister highlighted the renovation of Companiganj Girls' High School, including the construction of boundary walls and provision of modern furniture.
He further noted that modernization projects for Haripur Bazar, Darbast Bazar, and Ramdha Bazar are being implemented, with an allocation of 4 to 5 crore BDT for each market.
A key highlight of the speech was the tourism development of the famous 'Shapla Beel'. Minister Ariful Haque revealed plans to construct walkways and eco-friendly cottages around the wetland to allow tourists to stay overnight and enjoy the sunrise. He also assured that the damaged road along the Chenger Khal near Ratargul is being repaired on a priority basis.
The event concluded with the Minister urging the expatriate community to continue their support for the country's economic and infrastructural growth.
