In a bid to curb illegal construction and enforce structural building codes, the Sylhet Development Authority (SDA) has launched a comprehensive field inspection across the metropolitan area. The drive also aims to encourage citizens to secure formal engineering approvals prior to constructing property. SDA Chairman Rezaul Hasan Koyes Lodi is personally leading the monitoring teams.
Beginning Sunday (October 18, 2026), an executive delegation comprising SDA engineers and urban planners inspected several under-construction residential and commercial structures across key areas of Sylhet.
During the inspections, the technical team verified whether the active developments strictly adhered to the approved architectural layouts and safety guidelines. Additionally, the officials briefed property owners on the mandatory requirement of obtaining an official 'Occupancy Certificate' prior to opening the premises for public or residential use.
Addressing the media, SDA Chairman Rezaul Hasan Koyes Lodi stated, "Our primary objective is to verify if buildings are being constructed according to the designs sanctioned by either the Sylhet City Corporation or the SDA. We have noticed instances of deviations from approved blueprints, which is illegal. Property owners are being issued warnings and advice to rectify these deviations immediately."
"To transform Sylhet into a planned, modern, and safe tourist city, adherence to urban building codes is essential. We seek the active cooperation of all citizens to achieve this goal," the SDA Chairman added.
